What does learning a new skill do for your brain?
Learning something new helps increase and strengthen connections in the brain. Novel skill learning can lead to synaptogenesis, or the creation of new neural connections. This can lead to more efficient task-specific brain activity. We at PPG don't just play ping pong, but we practice various sets of skills not only to help us improve our game but also to engage our brain in novel skill learning and open-skill exercise, which may promote healthy brain activity. So even though some of our players may have been playing ping pong for a long time, we keep our drills, exercises, and game sequences fresh for all skill level players by introducing variability and adaptive difficulty.
